Broward man among contestants on Survivor: South Pacific
CBS on Monday announced the names of the first 16 contestants for this season’s Survivor: South Pacific— and among them is a Broward County man.
Albert Destrade, 26, of Plantation, who says he is both a baseball and a dating coach, will be introduced when the latest Survivor premiers Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. with a 90-minute episode.
Back in 2003, Destrade, who is of Cuban descent, was a stand-out high school outfielder for Florida Christian School in Miami-Dade. He eventually landed a baseball coaching job at Lynn University in Boca Raton.
His uncle Orestes Destrade was a first baseman with the 1994 Florida Marlins, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburg Pirates. He is currently a television sports analyst.
The younger Destrade is among 16 contestants — two more will be named later — ranging in age from 19-year-old Brandon Hantz, an oil tanker crewman, to 51 year-old rancher, Rick Nelson. In his cast interview video, Destrade says he “will do anything it takes to win the game.”
